Rivers Group Conference | 6 – 8 November
This event explores resilience in river management with the theme Ka Mua, Ka Muri – Walking Backwards into the Future.
Over two and a half days, attendees will reflect on past knowledge to better navigate future uncertainties. Outside, we’ll learn alongside the awa from tangata whenua and other local experts, before moving indoors to focus on future kōrero and solution-based discussions. This year also features an open session for attendees to share insights, plus ‘lightning’ talks to inspire new ideas.

15th Young Geotechnical Professionals Conference | 6 – 9 November
This standout event is jointly organised by the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) and New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS). Designed for professionals under 35 from Australia and New Zealand, this biennial conference invites attendees to present technical papers on topics across geomechanics, engineering geology, and geotechnical engineering.
With 50 delegates presenting, the event will also feature the Don Douglas Youth Fellowship Award and the Young Geotechnical Professional Fellowship. Networking events and a field trip to Hallet Cove add to what promises to be a valuable experience.

Women of WARR Leadership Breakfast | 7 November
The Waste Management & Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) is hosting the annual Victorian Women of WARR Leadership Breakfast on Thursday, 7 November 2024. This event is designed to celebrate women in our industry who are driving change and, in doing so, breaking down barriers and creating new career prospects for the next generation.

This year’s theme is “Never the Same Dam Twice.” With dams continually adapting to loads, ageing, and environmental factors, our industry must evolve to meet growing demands for resources, energy, and climate resilience, while safeguarding communities from dam failures.
The event features a full-day workshop, three days of technical sessions, and a fantastic social programme and tours, all aimed at sharing insights and advancing dam safety, risk management, and innovation across regulation, design, and construction. Conference of the Parties (COP) 29 | 11 – 22 November
The 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP29, will be the 29th United Nations Climate Change conference. COP is a significant annual event where nations, multi-lateral organisations, and NGOs come together to work towards positive environmental development and to tackle the effects of climate change.
Tackling an issue as multifaceted as climate change requires us to unite in solidarity as a global community to make a sustained difference. Working with various stakeholders allows us to reimagine traditional approaches and create innovative solutions. 5th International Conference on Transportation Geotechnics | 20 – 22 November
The 5th International Conference on Transportation Geotechnics will aim at promoting concepts and applications predominantly in the fields of transport infrastructure design, ground improvement, sustainability and circular economy perspectives, and natural hazards mitigation. This major event will act as a platform to disseminate the most recent research and field advances to the geotechnical community around the globe through active pathways of academia and practice.
Tonkin + Taylor is proud to be presenting at and sponsoring the conference with a range of our geotechnical engineers attending. Outstanding Keynote lectures and State-of-Practice presentations, along with brainstorming technical discussions, will contribute to three days of scientific and technical discourse.
