Recently, Tonkin + Taylor hosted its inaugural Infrastructure Symposium, uniting our infrastructure teams from New Zealand and Australia. The dynamic event, led by our engaging MC Te Radar, kicked off with an inspiring keynote from Sir Ian Taylor, who emphasised the importance of innovation, perseverance, and the benefits of venturing into the unknown, setting an invigorating tone for the day.

Tonkin + Taylor’s Inaugural Infrastructure Symposium

Infrastructure Symposium

Our technical experts delivered lightning presentations that offered valuable insights across topics such as; career development, the South Dunedin Futures project, and the importance of indigenous culture as a knowledge source. The quality of the presentations and the engagement among peers were remarkable, showcasing the expertise and dedication of T+T’s technical professionals.

Focus sessions were a highlight, featuring engaging discussions across digital enablement, construction innovation, sustainability, and reflections on our industry’s past, present, and future. These sessions underscored the importance of building resilience and proactively addressing the challenges and opportunities ahead.

The day concluded with the Pūngao Hau Wind Energy Sustainability Challenge. Teams crafted wind energy structures from recycled household materials, which were then tested by Ollie Whalley’s trusty leaf blower. Despite some spectacular failures, the creativity and enthusiasm was uplifting.

Peter Norfolk, Discipline Director – Infrastructure, summed up the event perfectly: “The highlight was the overwhelming enthusiasm and the immense value of bringing our people together to collaborate and share knowledge. It was an outstanding day, reflecting the strength and potential of our collective efforts.”

We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to come together, build on this momentum, and continue our journey of innovation and collaboration. The connections and insights gained from this symposium will undoubtedly strengthen our collective efforts and drive our future success, serving our clients with exceptional engineering and environmental services. Thank you to everyone who organised participated and contributed to making this event a memorable and impactful experience.
